The southern Chinese city of Guangzhou signed an education exchange memorandum with two provinces in Canada - British Columbia and Alberta on March 19.
Through the memorandum, Guangzhou No 1 Railway Middle School, Guangzhou Yucai Middle School, and Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Foreign Language School have respectively built two-way communication relationships with Canada's Revelstoke Secondary School, David Thompson Secondary School, and Golden Secondary School.
At the signing ceremony, Lin Qiasheng, vice-director of the Guangzhou education bureau, stated that both parties will strengthen cooperation in various areas including education management, teacher and student exchanges, curriculum development, and language learning. Both parties will benefit a lot from the partnership and hope for further cooperation on an even larger scope.
Among the attendees of the signing ceremony were 14 Canadian high school students that will be taking part in an upcoming exchange program in Guangzhou. They will stay with Chinese families and experience Chinese schooling for two weeks. Likewise, some high school students in Guangzhou will soon be selected by the exchange program to study in Canada.
