Meeting emphasizes importance of food safety

Food producers across Inner Mongolia autonomous region have renewed their commitment to food safety at a meeting in Hohhot on Feb 2.     

A total of seven large food-production companies, including Yili, China's largest dairy producer, and a local food safety watchdog presented work reports at the meeting and were quizzed by food safety specialists about their performance.

As an embodiment of four key food safety requirements laid down by the government, the meeting was of vital importance in implementing food safety regulations. It emphasized that companies, who are liable for the safety of their products, should take their responsibilities seriously, while food safety watchdogs should be fully aware of their duty to monitor food on sale to the public.

A total of 44 companies in the autonomous region, along with 134 people from drug and food safety watchdogs attended the meeting.

Also, several food producers agreed to sign up to a voluntary set of principles to tackle the practice of misleading advertising.
