Zhoushan, an island city in Zhejiang has upgraded its fishery industry in recent years and in the process transformed its abundant marine resources.

To ensure the sustainable development of fishery, the city resorted to the propagation and releasing of fish fries, and constructed artificial fish reefs to increase fish population. It also focused on research and development of aquatic products to improve the utilization of fishery resources.

The city's marine resources have been adequately restored and the fishery industry is improving steadily.

In the first half year of 2017, the total output of the city's fishery industry was about 620,700 metric tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.54 percent. The per-capita income of Zhoushan fishermen was 10,630 yuan ($1605.13) from January to June, up by 8.1 percent from a year earlier.
