Will the purpose of the intended stay in China be examined by the Chinese border inspection authorities when entering China? How will it be done? Are other documents needed for entering China in addition to a passport?

Yes. The Chinese border inspection authorities will examine whether your purpose of travel meets the requirements for visa-free entry.

If you are traveling for business, tourism, visits to family or friends, exchange, or transit that falls within the visa waiver policy, you may enter China without a visa after examination and approval according to the law.

Entry will be denied if your intended purpose does not meet visa waiver requirements or if you otherwise fail to qualify under relevant laws and regulations.

Border inspection officers may ask questions about your itinerary and purpose of stay. It is recommended that you carry supporting documents such as invitation letters, round-trip or onward air tickets and reservations of accommodation to verify your stated purpose.

Please note that visa-free entry does not apply to travelers coming to China for work, study, journalistic or similar purposes.
