The joint team from the Beijing Dance Academy and Guanggu Dongzhi based in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) clinched the first gold medal in the group dance competition with a score of 92.54 at the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.

The World Humanoid Robot Games are the first global sports event exclusively featuring humanoid robots. This year's competition attracted 280 teams from 16 countries across five continents, with over 500 intelligent robots competing in 26 categories and 538 events.

In the group dance competition, nine "Guangzi" humanoid robots, developed by Guanggu Dongzhi, performed alongside a human dancer in a piece titled Soul of the Terracotta Warriors. The dancer portrayed a general, while the "Guangzi" robots portrayed soldiers in 3D-printed terracotta armor. They skillfully played the drums and danced in formation, creating a vivid scene of a general leading troops into battle.

"This achievement represents a breakthrough in humanoid robot motion control technology," said Lou Kaiqi, deputy general manager of Guanggu Dongzhi. During rehearsals, the robots initially struggled with balance during complex movements. The team addressed these challenges by enhancing hardware and algorithms, increasing power supply and motor capacity, and optimizing limb coordination. These improvements resulted in a stable and captivating performance.

In the 100-meter sprint, the team from Wuhan University, led by Academician Liu Sheng, showcased the "Tianwen 3" robot, finishing the race in 1 min 26 sec. This humanoid robot is 90 percent composed of components sourced from Hubei. The team has established Wuhan Shouzhi Innovation Technology Co in OVC to further advance their research and development in robotics.
