The village, known for its lamb butchering tradition since the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), now boasts a thriving mutton-centric tourism experience.
More than 10 family-run restaurants now feature elaborate mutton feasts, attracting over 100,000 visitors annually and generating over 15 million yuan ($2 million) in sales. Taqiao village has fostered a 20-million-yuan industry value chain integrating lamb breeding, butchering, and processing, with 40 percent of its residents involved in the trade.
Local authorities in Liuwang town are actively supporting entrepreneurship by providing training programs, expert guidance, and assistance with workspace and loan acquisition. The town is also improving the village's infrastructure, including beautification, street lighting, greenery, and recreational areas. The integration of characteristic street furniture, vending machines, and tourist information points aims to elevate the tourist experience.
By melding time-honored culinary traditions with modern tourism and entrepreneurship, Taqiao village has not only created a culinary haven but has also ignited a new era of rural vitalization.
