The Eighth Route Army Taihang Memorial Hall in Shanxi Province, North China, is the only large-scale revolutionary museum in China that comprehensively records the fighting history of the Eighth Route Army during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).
The memorial site consists of 10 key attractions: The Eighth Route Army War History Exhibition Hall, the Eighth Route Army Commanders' Hall, the Temporary Exhibition Hall, the Hundred Regiments Offensive Multimedia Diaroma Hall, a cave warfare landscape, the Eighth Route Army Spirit Stelae Park, the Eighth Route Army War Memorial Monument, a group sculpture of Eighth Route Army commanders, the “Ode to Peace” Theme Park, and a memorial pavilion for Marshal Xu Xiangqian (1901-90).

In 1940, as the war of resistance against Japanese aggression entered a stalemate phase, the Japanese invaders implemented a "cage policy" against the revolutionary base areas in North China, while simultaneously concentrating heavy forces on the main front, plotting to invade the southwest and northwest regions in an attempt to force China’s surrender.

The exhibition highlights the Army’s vital role as a mainstay in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression and exposes the heinous crimes committed by Japanese invaders in China. In 2007, it received the Special Award—the highest honor—at the 7th National Top 10 Museum Exhibitions in China.

As one of China’s most renowned centers for the collection, preservation, research, and exhibition of wartime historical artifacts, the Eighth Route Army Taihang Memorial Hall houses over 8,000 cultural relics and items. The collection focuses on historical documents and related artifacts from the Eighth Route Army during the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, including more than 150 “National First-Grade Cultural Relics”.

Over the years, the memorial hall has collected wartime relics in Shanxi and across China. It has also received widespread donations from individuals and organizations.
