Shanghai's Changning district ranks among the world's 40 coolest neighborhoods

Time Out — a global city life magazine — released its ranking of "the 40 coolest neighborhoods in the world in 2026", with Changning district in Shanghai ranking 26th.

The ranking, based on a range of criteria, including food and drink, nightlife, unique local businesses, livability and community, has helped refresh the public's perception of Shanghai as a travel destination.

Changning, located in the western part of downtown and shaded by wutong trees and suitable for both movement and quietness, is becoming a characteristic area with a sense of life and fashion.

The unique temperament of Changning originates from the combination of traditional and modern neighborhoods. A large number of garden villas and historical buildings are preserved, and they are now revitalized through organic updates, transforming into boutique shops, specialty restaurants, and micro art spaces.
