'Zhong Kui' comes to Shanghai

On Thursday, Hebei Bangzi Opera Theatre brought the mythological drama Zhong Kui to Shanghai. The production follows the scholar Zhong Kui, who dies after suffering pressure in an imperial examination and is later made a legendary demon hunter. A national intangible cultural heritage, Hebei Bangzi is popular in northern China and known for its powerful vocals, bold rhythms and dynamic stage style.
