Bronze wine vessel with an openwork lotus crown

Meet this hu, a bronze wine vessel from the late Western Zhou Dynasty (c. 11th century-771 BC), unearthed in a pair in Fufeng county, Shaanxi province. One is now housed in the Shaanxi History Museum, while its counterpart remains overseas.
It features a delicate openwork lotus crown, a reclining ox on the lid, and raised elephant trunks on the two handles, full of life and movement. A 45-character inscription on the vessel records its maker — Liang Qi, an imperial cook — and why he made it, preserving a personal story from nearly three millennia ago.
