Ordos cultural week brings heritage to life through innovation

The 2026 Ordos Cultural Creative Industry Week is underway at the Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center, showcasing new ways to preserve, present, and develop the city's rich cultural heritage.

Ordos boasts a rich array of historical and cultural resources, including the Salawusu cultural sites, the Zhukaigou civilization, the ancient Qin Straight Road, and unique traditions influenced by pastoral lifestyles and multi-ethnic exchanges.

Running through Sept 6, the event brings intangible cultural heritage, digital technology, and cultural industries together. Local traditional Mongolian silverwork, horsehead fiddle, and folk art form Manhan tune are being presented, creating opportunities for exchange and wider public engagement.

The event also showcases new forms of cultural expression through virtual reality (VR), naked-eye 3D, and mixed reality (MR). Digital experiences recreate the history of the Qin Straight Road and Ordos' urban development, while The MR Experience of Chinese Traditional Solar Terms brings traditional Chinese paintings and seasonal culture into an interactive digital setting.

It aims to promote the creative transformation of cultural heritage and make culture more accessible to the public.
