Shanxi achieves milestone with 120 "Blissful Rivers and Lakes"

Shanxi province has established 120 provincial-level "Blissful Rivers and Lakes" – rivers and lakes that bring well-being to the people and ecological harmony – reaching its interim goal of the "One Hundred Counties, One Hundred Rivers (Lakes)" initiative and marking a comprehensive improvement in the province's landscape.

Shanxi has been at the forefront of the "Blissful Rivers and Lakes" initiative and was the first in the nation to publish a list of "Mother Rivers" at the county level and above, prioritizing their transformation into eco-friendly and livable water bodies. The "Clear Water into the Yellow River" project has also been completed, breathing new life into many rivers.

To enhance public participation, Shanxi deepened the "River and Lake Chief+" collaborative governance mechanism with a series of events celebrating the 10th anniversary of the river and lake chief system launched in Taiyuan. These events aim to engage all 11 cities in Shanxi and foster a strong societal commitment to river protection, modernizing Shanxi's river and lake governance systems and capabilities.
