First staged in 1979, Legend on the Silk Road is a landmark Chinese dance production that pioneered Dunhuang dance by bringing the imagery of the Mogao Caves’ ancient murals to life through movement.
Set along the ancient Silk Road, the story follows a Chinese dancer and a Persian merchant, weaving together love, friendship and cultural exchange.
The 2025 revival retains the signature S-shaped poses of Dunhuang dance while introducing more fluid, dynamic and technically demanding choreography.
