Lyuliang to build modern industrial system

Lyuliang, a city in Shanxi province known for its resource-based economy, unveiled its strategic development pathway at the "15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30)" news conference on Aug 21, with a focus on transforming its resource-dependent economy and urban renewal that aims to advance industrial upgrading, urban enhancement, ecological protection, and livelihood improvement.

Mayor Xiong Yizhi emphasized the city's commitment to high-end, intelligent, green, and integrated industrial development, aiming to establish a modern industrial system with unique Lyuliang characteristics.

By 2030, the city aims to create an industrial cluster worth 200 billion yuan ($29.75 billion) in new materials and a 100 billion yuan cluster in the liquor industry, with plans to cultivate two to three industrial clusters, each worth 50 billion yuan.

With key attractions like Qikou Ancient Town and Xinghua village, as well as over 100 rural tourism villages, Lyuliang plans to introduce new offerings, scenarios, and experiences, significantly boosting the competitiveness of its cultural tourism industry.

Mayor Xiong also announced initiatives for the ecological restoration of Lyuliang Mountain and comprehensive management of the Yellow River and Fenhe River basins, promoting carbon reduction, pollution control, greening, and growth. 

"We will explore Lyuliang's revolutionary culture and Yellow River culture, enhancing the protection and management of historical and cultural sites," Xiong stated. "This will integrate historical culture with urban development, empowering high-quality growth."
