Intl wrestling tournament wraps up in Xi'an

After three days of intense competition, the 2026 China‑Central Asia Elite Wrestling Tournament wrapped up in Xi'an on Aug 9.

The tournament brought together renowned wrestlers and promising young athletes from various countries. Chinese athletes secured a total of 12 gold medals throughout the contest.

Hosted on home soil, the tournament offered young wrestlers from Shaanxi province a precious opportunity to compete with national‑team athletes and international elites. With over four decades of development, Shaanxi has established a four‑tier talent training system covering provincial, municipal, county, and school levels. The event also serves as a key platform to evaluate Shaanxi's reserve strength of local wrestlers.

Rodica Maria Yaksi, vice‑president of United World Wrestling, spoke highly of the venue conditions and event organization. She said, "Wrestling in China enjoys rapid development and profound heritage. We have witnessed the flourishing wrestling culture in Shaanxi and the dynamic sports industry."

An event representative stated that Shaanxi will continue to consolidate its talent echelon for heavy‑weight competitive sports, build more platforms for international sports exchanges, and inject sustained momentum into building a province strong in sports.
