Thunder, lightning and crashing waves set the stage as the China National Opera House premiered its new production of Verdi's Otello in Beijing on Wednesday. With crashing waves, thunderous choruses, and striking stage effects, audiences were transported to a dramatic night on the coast of Cyprus. Widely regarded as one of Verdi's most challenging operas, this fully staged production was performed by an all-Chinese cast.
