Xi'an fielded a contingent of 30 young athletes competing across all categories at the tennis events (youth group) of the 18th Games of Shaanxi Province, held from July 31 to Aug 4 in Weinan, claiming an impressive haul of 11 gold, five silver, and three bronze medals.
The youth group tennis competition featured three age categories: U15, U13, and U11, covering team events and singles and bringing together 136 young players from 10 city teams across the province. The Xi'an delegation secured all six gold medals in the men's and women's team events, demonstrating formidable overall strength.
As the only city team with a full‑strength roster competing in all events, all 30 players of the Xi'an tennis team are powerful contenders who qualified through last year's qualifiers, a testament to the thriving development of youth tennis in Xi'an.
Tennis clubs are flourishing in primary and secondary schools across the city, with more than 30 youth training institutions operating citywide. Nearly 200 students from multiple districts and development zones including Beilin, Yanta, and Chang'an regularly take part in the city's tennis competitions.
Xi'an will further integrate sports and education to advance tennis development, smooth transitions between schools, clubs, and professional training, establish regular competitive exchange platforms for young athletes, and refine the selection and training mechanism for reserve talents, opening up broader career prospects for hard‑working players.
