Three Shanxi roads named 'Beautiful Roads of 2026' in China

Three roads in Shanxi province have been selected as "Beautiful Roads of 2026" in the rural road category by the Tourism Traffic Working Committee of the China Highway and Transportation Society.

These roads include the Wanrong section of the Yellow River No 1 Tourist Highway, the Wuxiang county to Beishe section of the Wuxiang-Zhuanbi Red Tourism Highway, and the Yonghe section of the Yellow River No 1 Tourist Highway.

The Wanrong section of the Yellow River No 1 Tourist Highway connects Wanrong's most iconic cultural landmarks, offering travelers a journey through picturesque landscapes and historical sites. The road has spurred the growth of rural tourism, unique accommodations, and local product sales, fostering a "fast travel, slow experience" tourism model.

The Wuxiang county to Beishe section of the Wuxiang-Zhuanbi Red Tourism Highway stretches 15.46 kilometers and is a key segment of the Taihang No 1 Tourist Highway. This road links 53 revolutionary historical sites, attracting over 150,000 visitors annually. It exemplifies the development concept of "building a road, and enriching the locals".

The Yonghe section of the Yellow River No 1 Tourist Highway extends 68 km, connecting attractions like Qiankunwan and the Yellow River Shequ National Geopark, along with tourism villages such as Dongzheng and Qiqili. It blends the majestic Yellow River canyon views with unique geological wonders, serving as a vital showcase of the province's ecological beauty and cultural charm.

Overall, the 13,000-kilometer network of the Yellow River, Great Wall, and Taihang No 1 Tourist Highways in Shanxi not only highlights the province's stunning scenery but also promotes local entrepreneurship and employment, benefiting over 2.3 million residents.
