Hohhot's forage industry powers success of dairy

As "China's Milk Capital", Hohhot has positioned the dairy industry as its top priority.

Through scientific and technological breakthroughs, it addresses challenges in forage germplasm resources, planting, and supply, thereby opening up the entire industrial chain – from germplasm R&D and smart cultivation to circular farming and high-quality milk sources.

Hohhot is intensifying efforts to build a national-level forage breeding base, a germplasm resource bank, and an ecological restoration demonstration area this year, securing self-reliance and control over forage germplasm from the source.

Hohhot has laid out large-scale forage bases in Tumd Left Banner, Horinger county, and Togtoh county. The total planting area of forage grass has exceeded 1.61 million mu (107,300 hectares), with the self-sufficiency rate of high-quality forage surpassing 80 percent.

Hohhot has brought together over 300 forage industry enterprises, including Inner Mongolia M-grass Ecology and Environment Group and Youran Dairy, along with numerous research institutions and sci-tech innovation teams.

Major science and technology projects are being deployed to tackle bottlenecks in the forage industry.

The National Grass Industry Technology Innovation Center was approved on Jan 21, becoming the second national technology innovation center to be established in Hohhot. The center is led by M-Grass Group and jointly built with 15 enterprises, universities, and research institutes.
