"This exhibition presents a balanced perspective on its history, craftsmanship and contemporary context. Our intention is to offer visitors a clear and informed understanding of this material and the many stories surrounding it."
Carvalho says the exhibition reveals the many layers of fascination inspired by precious coral. "I hope visitors experience its remarkable, multifaceted world with curiosity and delight," he says.
The exhibits are on loan from distinguished institutions and private collectors, including the Coral Museum-Liverino Collection, the Faerber Collection, the Van Cleef & Arpels Collection, the Cartier Collection, and the Mengdiexuan Collection.
Together, the works present an interdisciplinary view of coral's place in both the natural world and human culture.
