Shanxi accelerates transformation, development

In the first half of the year, Shanxi province's GDP reached 1.17 trillion yuan ($173.76 billion), reflecting a 2.1 percent year-on-year growth. This achievement underscores the province's robust progress in energy transition, industrial upgrading, and economic restructuring.

Shanxi is evolving from a coal-dependent region into a diversified energy hub, embracing wind, solar, hydrogen, storage, and gas. The province's unconventional natural gas output rose by 12.4 percent, with coalbed methane production up by 8.1 percent.

The renewable energy sector also saw notable progress. Its installed capacity increased by 7.6 percent year-on-year, with wind and solar capacities growing by 6.1 percent and 9.0 percent, respectively. Energy investments maintained double-digit growth at 13.1 percent.

Industrial upgrading in Shanxi is gaining momentum. The added value of computer and office equipment manufacturing surged by 60.8 percent, while the new materials industry grew by 12.9 percent, general equipment manufacturing by 9.1 percent, and the automotive industry by 11.0 percent.

Emerging consumption trends are also unleashing strong potential. New formats like concerts, short dramas, and leisure activities are booming, driving revenue growth in film and TV production, leisure tourism, and cultural heritage protection by 99 percent, 82.8 percent, and 26.8 percent, respectively.

Shanxi's strategic focus on transformation and development is paving the way for a sustainable and diversified economic future.
