The National Ballet of China's original The Peony Pavilion recently returned to Beijing's Tianqiao Theatre, newly refined by its original creative team led by director Li Liuyi. Inspired by Tang Xianzu's 16th-century masterpiece, one of China's greatest works of classical literature, the ballet reimagines the legendary romance of Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei through expressive choreography and sweeping symphonic music.
