BEIJING -- A total of 140 million people in China made purchases through cross-border e-commerce platforms in the first half (H1) of 2026, with exports via overseas warehouses surging 3.3-fold, the country's top customs official said on Wednesday.

Highlighting the robust growth of new business models and formats in the cross-border e-commerce sector, Sun Meijun, head of the General Administration of Customs, unveiled the figures at a press conference.

In 2025, China's total cross-border e-commerce imports and exports reached 2.84 trillion yuan (about $418.06 billion), up 4.8 percent year-on-year, customs data showed.

Market procurement exports, meanwhile, exceeded 800 billion yuan during the same period.
