Ordos advances construction of low-carbon power project

Construction of a 4×1,000 megawatt low-carbon coal-fired power project is progressing steadily in Dalad Banner, Ordos city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, with the project entering a key stage ahead of its launch.

With a total investment of about 15.7 billion yuan ($2.32 billion), the project is jointly developed by China Three Gorges Corporation and Inner Mongolia Energy Investment Group. Construction began in September 2024, and the project is scheduled for completion and commissioning in November 2027.

As a next-generation smart, low-carbon coal-fired power demonstration project, the facility will generate about 16.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually upon completion.

It will utilize the Mengxi-Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission channel to support the coordinated delivery of wind, solar, and thermal power, as well as energy storage resources.

The project will provide reliable power for industrial development in western Inner Mongolia, improve the integration of renewable energy, and contribute to the region's energy transition and high-quality development.
