Experience the beauty of Kunqu Opera as Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe will present The Purple Hairpin on Aug 22, at Guangzhou Opera House. Written by Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) playwright Tang Xianzu (1550–1616), often hailed as the "Shakespeare of China", this classic follows the love story of scholar Li Yi and Huo Xiaoyu. Separated by political intrigue and misunderstanding, the couple is ultimately reunited through the courageous intervention of a mysterious knight, celebrating love, loyalty and justice through one of China's greatest theatrical masterpieces.
