Yangshuo Golden Loong Parade bridges cities for cultural exchange

The Yangshuo Golden Loong Parade, an intangible cultural heritage piece centered on dragon imagery, water routes and cultural heritage, links Beijing, Suzhou, and Yangshuo as a bridge for cross-regional heritage exchange.

Crafted from 36 bamboo rafts native to the Yulong River in Yangshuo, the giant golden loong embodies local villagers' prayers for ample harvests.

The nearly 240-meter spectacle recently debuted on Beijing's Grand Canal ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival, blending northern canal heritage with southern mountain folk art.

Originating from the Yulong River in Yangshuo, Guilin, the iconic golden loong carries the local folks' time-honored wishes for favorable waters and bumper harvests.

Traveling north to the Grand Canal in Tongzhou, Beijing, brings together the age-old canal transport heritage with folk customs from Guangxi's mountainous region.

When drifting south to Suzhou's moat, the Golden Loong merges with the Jiangnan time-honored Dragon Boat rituals for the Dragon Boat Festival, striking resonant harmony between northern and southern folk traditions.
