In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Juncao technology is advancing from pilot demonstrations to nationwide industrial-scale adoption. The progress follows a report approved at the country's 76th Meeting of the Council of Ministers in January, which endorsed plans to establish a demonstration center in Kinshasa and gradually expand the technology to 145 regions across the country.

The plan aims to help address food shortages and support local economic development. Juncao technology, developed by a team led by Chinese scientist Lin Zhanxi at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, uses grasses rather than wood as a cultivation substrate for edible and medicinal mushrooms.

The technology was designed to reduce pressure on forest resources while supporting mushroom production. It has also been applied in livestock feed production, ecological restoration, and soil conservation. The university said the technology has now been introduced in more than 100 countries and regions.

In recent years, Juncao projects in the DRC have been used in agricultural production, farmer training, and environmental protection. The National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University has provided technical training and developed local expertise.

In May, Francois Balumuene Nkuna, the DRC's ambassador to China, led a delegation to the university, where officials and researchers discussed research cooperation, expert exchanges, and commercial applications of the technology.
