Caribbean students embrace traditional festival in Jinan

International students from Caribbean countries gathered in Jinan on June 18 to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival through a series of immersive cultural activities, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and strengthening ties between China and the Caribbean.

Students from countries including the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica took part in the event, which introduced them to one of China's most important traditional festivals. Through presentations and discussions, participants explored the festival's origins, customs, and cultural significance.

The event featured a range of hands-on experiences. Students learned to make zongzi, a traditional Dragon Boat Festival delicacy made of glutinous rice wrapped in leaves. They also participated in a workshop, decorating round fans with dried flowers and plants, an activity that highlighted the elegance of Chinese aesthetics and craftsmanship.

Beyond the cultural experiences, students participated in a land curling activity that encouraged teamwork and forged friendships. Combining traditional culture with recreational activities, the event provided an engaging platform for international students to better understand China while building connections across cultures.
