China sees over 650m trips during Dragon Boat Festival holiday

China is expected to record more than 650 million cross-regional passenger trips during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which ends on Sunday, the Ministry of Transport said on Sunday.

From Friday to Sunday, total cross-regional passenger flows are projected to reach 652.78 million, with a daily average of 217.59 million trips, largely unchanged from the same period last year.

Railways are expected to handle 49.45 million passenger trips during the holiday, averaging 16.48 million trips per day, up 2.97 percent year-on-year.

Road travel remained the dominant mode of transport, with total passenger flows expected to reach 594.89 million, or 198.3 million per day, down 0.4 percent year-on-year.

Waterway passenger trips are expected to total 2.76 million, with a daily average of 921,000, up 1.16 percent year-on-year.

Civil aviation is expected to handle 5.68 million passenger trips during the holiday, averaging 1.89 million trips per day, up 0.6 percent year-on-year.
