China recorded 15.11 million voluntary blood donations in 2025, with a total volume of 25.5 million units, a senior health official said on Sunday.

Zheng Zhe, vice-minister of the National Health Commission, said voluntary blood donations have played an important role in securing supplies for clinical treatment and protecting public health.

He called for further improvements in safeguarding donors' benefits and rights, including full implementation of policies such as priority access to blood, fee reductions or exemptions, and more convenient medical services for donors.

Zheng made the remarks at an event in Wuhan, Hubei province, marking World Blood Donor Day, observed annually on June 14.

According to local authorities in Hubei, the province has recorded increases in both annual donation volume and the number of donors for 20 consecutive years, and its blood donation rate per 1,000 people ranks among the highest nationwide.

The provincial capital, Wuhan, is expanding donation sites in major commercial districts and along subway lines, in addition to its 68 existing collection stations, while upgrading services.

More than 50 hospitals in the city have directly reduced blood transfusion fees for donors. The city has also introduced a range of preferential policies covering health care services, travel to scenic spots, transportation and health checkups.
