The proposed projects for Wuhan's 2026 Key R&D Plan, focusing on AI one person company (OPC) innovation, have been announced, with Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) securing 12 out of the 20 citywide projects, accounting for 60 percent and leading the city in AI advancements.
The Key R&D Plan will allocate 500,000 yuan ($74,000) to each key project and 300,000 yuan to each nurturing project. These projects focus on cutting-edge fields such as large models, intelligent agents, embodied intelligence, film and animation shorts, and AIGC (AI-generated content).
Local universities, such as Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, are also collaborating with participating enterprises to drive industry-academia-research efforts.
OVC continues to enhance its AI innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem by providing OPC entrepreneurship policy support and educational resources. The landing of these projects underscores the robust growth of the zone's AI industry cluster and will boost the quality and expansion of Wuhan's OPC industry.
OVC's AI industry is rapidly developing, forming a complete industrial chain from technical development to application. This year, the scale of the zone's AI industry is expected to surpass 100 billion yuan, with new sectors such as intelligent agents and OPC emerging as significant drivers.
