OVC launches intl brain-computer interface innovation center

Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) has launched its international brain-computer interface innovation center, showcasing over 70 brain-computer interface (BCI) products.

This center, a collaboration between OVC, Tongji Hospital, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology's Brain-Computer Interface Research Institute, serves as a core innovation platform for the BCI industry. It offers a comprehensive service framework that guides enterprises from clinical needs and concept validation through testing, product registration, and clinical application, ensuring a smooth transition of BCI technologies from the lab to the bedside.

Spanning approximately 8,600 square meters across six floors, the center is designed to facilitate both innovation and collaboration. The first floor features an exhibition hall, which will open for public appointments by the end of June. Floors two to five are dedicated to research labs and incubation spaces, with a focus on cultivating key development and production platforms. The sixth floor is reserved for shared enterprise facilities.

The devices displayed in the exhibition hall are already in use at Tongji Hospital's OVC branch, primarily serving patients with upper limb paralysis caused by cerebral hemorrhage or stroke. The center’s incubation space has attracted numerous BCI enterprises, fostering the development of innovative products.

Recognized as one of the six future industries in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), the BCI industry is a strategic priority for OVC. The zone has established a comprehensive support system covering policy, funding, and platform infrastructure, attracting prominent companies like Neuracom, Yiruide Group, and GreenTek.
