Northeast China's Jilin province has outlined a comprehensive strategy to enhance its cultural soft power during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), placing culture at the center of high-quality development and regional vitalization.

At a news conference on June 2, officials introduced a series of initiatives covering cultural heritage protection, public cultural services, media innovation, cultural industries, sports development, and tourism integration.

The province plans to strengthen the preservation and utilization of major cultural heritage resources, including Gaogouli, the Ancient Great Wall, Chinese Eastern Railway heritage, and modern historical architecture. It will also expand archaeological research, museum development, and the protection of intangible cultural heritage.

Jilin will continue to improve its public cultural service network, promote nationwide reading programs, and build more community-based cultural spaces. Efforts will also be made to deepen media integration, develop digital cultural industries, and foster emerging sectors, such as online literature, animation, and short-form dramas.

In sports, the province will build on its strong winter sports tradition to expand public participation, improve youth training, and prepare for the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade. Ice and snow tourism, sports events, and cultural experiences will be further integrated to support the growth of the ice-and-snow economy.
