Hydrogen energy testing facility begins construction in Ordos

Construction has begun on the No 2 testing site of the Inner Mongolia Hydrogen Energy Equipment Demonstration and Testing Platform in the Ordos Airport Logistics Park, marking another step forward in the development of China's hydrogen energy industry.

The platform is among the first batch of hydrogen energy pilot projects approved by the National Energy Administration. It has also been recognized by the National Development and Reform Commission as a green, low‑carbon, advanced technology demonstration project.

Led by the China Hydrogen Alliance and China Energy Investment Co, the platform is being jointly developed with leading universities, including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Xiamen University.

The project aims to establish a complete innovation chain covering scientific research, pilot-scale validation, and industrial application. It will also serve as a pilot testing base under the Ministry of Education's Green Hydrogen Discipline Breakthrough Program, helping address key industry challenges such as limited testing facilities and the slow commercialization of technological advances.

The platform's No 1 testing site has been completed and is now fully operational, providing advanced hydrogen equipment testing capabilities.

The newly launched No 2 testing site will focus on large-megawatt hydrogen equipment testing, filling a critical gap in current demonstration capabilities.

Once fully operational, the platform will integrate technology research and development, equipment testing, standards development, pilot verification, and professional training, forming a comprehensive service hub for the hydrogen industry.

The project is expected to promote the standardization, large-scale development, and high-end upgrading of Inner Mongolia's green hydrogen industry while contributing to the high-quality development of China’s broader hydrogen energy sector.
