On Tuesday, renowned choreographer Yang Liping brought her 2026 dance theatre Under Siege: The Full Story of Farewell My Concubine to Liaoyang Grand Theatre in Liaoning province. The work reimagines the Chu-Han Contention (206-202 BC), a historical civil war after the fall of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) between Xiang Yu and Liu Bang, which led to the rise of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24). Blending dance, installation art, and traditional theatre, it explores human desire, power, and fear.
