"Du BA", the village basketball super league in Du'an Yao autonomous county of Hechi city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, kicked off on May 22.
With the slogan "DuBA: Enjoy the Summer," this basketball extravaganza is not only a summer sports celebration for the Yao ethnic community but also a crucial platform for uniting the county's diverse ethnic groups on the path toward rural vitalization.
By integrating sports, culture and tourism, the event highlighted the unique charm of a vibrant new Du'an.
This year's "Du BA" features 22 teams from 19 townships, competing across four major venues: Eastern Arena in Lalie town, Southern Arena in Gaoling town, Western Arena in Disu town, and Northern Arena in Banling town.
The tournament runs from May 22 to August 28, following a five-stage format: village selection, regional advancement, top 12 round-robin, quarterfinals, and finals. Unlike professional leagues, "Du BA" focuses on community involvement, integrating local culture, tourism, and development throughout the event, creating a new path for "sports + culture + rural vitalization".
Leveraging local resources, Du'an is using sports as a medium to enhance cultural and economic benefits. The "Du BA" not only serves as a sports competition but also as a vital vehicle for promoting cultural tourism and rural development.
The event also includes folk performances, fostering community harmony and showcasing Du'an's rich cultural heritage. By promoting local tourism and cuisine, Du'an aims to make "Du BA" emblematic of its thriving industries and vibrant community life.
