The 2026 "Looking China · Youth Film Project · Guangxi" has concluded. Young directors from seven countries traveled across Guangxi, observing and documenting local culture and life through international perspectives.
Featured documentary, Malaysian Student · Dahua Teacher, adopts a first-person narrative. It chronicles Malaysian youth Wu Chenghao's journey to Dahua, Guangxi, where he met Wei Biaodong. As a graduate of Beijing Normal University, Wei has long been rooted in mountainous regions and has devoted himself to rural education.
Shot in handheld documentary style, the film steers clear of posed scenes and arranged interviews. It immerses fully in daily life, recording real moments of rural schooling.
Through raw, understated footage, the work depicts ordinary yet powerful moments in rural education and honors the perseverance and gentle dedication of teachers serving in remote mountain areas.
