Du'an Yao autonomous county in Guangxi came alive on April 18 as the 2026 "Guangxi Sanyuesan · Du'an Carnival" kicked off, serving as a vibrant showcase of ethnic culture.

The highlight was a large parade from the county's Culture and Sports Square, featuring over 1,000 performers organized into seven themed formations, including traditional dragon and horse pageantry, Zhuang bronze drum dances, bamboo pole dances, lion dances, and even robot performances — a striking fusion of ancient customs and modern flair.

A food tourism festival tantalized visitors with more than 250 local specialties, from five-colored glutinous rice and Yao-style whole beef banquets to fermented snacks and medicinal dishes. Free tasting zones and a bustling agricultural market further boosted the festive economy.

Throughout the day, folk song duets and impromptu singing competitions echoed across the county, with lyrics celebrating ethnic unity and rural vitalization. A youth basketball invitational tournament drew over 100 teams from across the region, blending sports with cultural engagement.

As night fell, a large-scale light show illuminated the karst landscape with themes of Yao mythology and harmony, while night markets and outdoor concerts kept the celebration going.

The county's ongoing efforts to integrate culture, tourism, sports, and technology are aimed at fostering a strong sense of community among all ethnic groups. The Sanyuesan festivities in Du'an are set to continue through the end of April.
