Construction of a 4-million-kilowatt new energy transmission project commenced on April 15 in Juungar Banner, Ordos, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to State Grid East Inner Mongolia Electric Power Co.

The project is a supporting component of the Mengxi–Tianjin South ultra-high voltage (UHV) power transmission corridor. It starts from the 500-kV Dalu Substation, connects to the 500-kV Buertao Substation, and ends at the 1,000-kV Ordos UHV Substation.

The project includes the construction of two new 500-kV substations at Dalu and Buertao, 279 kilometers of 500-kV transmission lines, and 340 transmission towers, with a total investment of 1.94 billion yuan ($283.21 million).

Once operational, the project will enhance the outward transmission capacity of renewable energy from Ordos, enabling the delivery of approximately 14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually to the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, helping meet growing power demand.

It is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 4.4 million metric tons per year.
