Hechi in South China's Guangxi Zhang autonomous region achieved milestones in ecological and environmental conservation in 2025, with all major indicators meeting or exceeding targets, reinforcing the ecological security barrier in northwestern Guangxi, according to a special session of the Standing Committee of the Hechi People's Congress to review the city's environmental protection efforts on April 8.
The city's PM2.5 concentration dropped to 22.37 µg/m³, a 4.3 percent decrease year-on-year, ranking first in the region. The Air Quality Index improved to 2.55, a 3.8 percent reduction, also leading the region. With good air quality on 97.26 percent of days, the city ranked third in the region. Ozone levels decreased by 3.5 percent, with no severe pollution days recorded.
All national control sections met water quality standards, with surface water quality ranking eighth nationally. Drinking water sources achieved a 100 percent compliance rate, and the rate of rural sewage management improved from 29 percent to 44.98 percent. Soil quality remained stable, with a 92.1 percent of the contaminated farmland safely utilized.
The city enhanced its ecosystems through afforestation and rehabilitated 984.11 hectares of abandoned mines.
Overall, the city met all environmental protection targets set by the autonomous region, marking significant progress in sustainable development.
