Hechi has completed 52 forestry carbon bill transactions as of mid-March 2026, as the city continues to push forward with green development and ecological value transformation.

A forestry carbon bill is a local credential that certifies the right to earnings from carbon emission reductions generated by forestland and trees, with rights including trading, pledging, redemption and emission offsetting.

As the first pilot city for forestry carbon bills in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Hechi runs a well-established trading system that turns forest resources into economic gains.

The city records a total trading volume of 19,000 metric tons of carbon emission reductions, with a transaction value of over 1 million yuan ($140,000).

The forestry carbon bill projects cover three pilot counties, including Huanjiang, Nandan and Bama, with a total development area of 33,200 mu (2,213 hectares). All projects follow strict verification procedures to ensure the credibility of carbon reduction data.

The first certification period issues 63,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, and the projects are expected to generate a total of 250,000 tons in 20 years.

Local authorities develop innovative models such as digital management, scenic spot plus village collective, and carbon sink plus cultural tourism. The carbon bills serve multiple functions, including the offsetting of emissions generated by enterprises, facilitating carbon neutrality for public institutions and providing mechanisms for ecological compensation.

Hechi continues to expand its pilot program and improve trading scenarios, providing a replicable framework for turning lucid waters and lush mountains into invaluable assets and supporting rural vitalization across the region.
