The story returned to where it took place, Beijing, as Sheng Xiaoyun, a renowned pingtan artist, and her younger-generation co-performers from Suzhou enthralled the capital audience with a new rendition of Tixiao Yinyuan.
The team put on two shows at the National Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday and Sunday, enriching the nights with several pingtan pieces other than Tixiao Yinyuan. The performances were not only to introduce the artistry of this performing style in southern China, but also to show their innovative efforts to enliven it.
