On the evening of May 9 in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the Qinqiang Opera The Han Frontier in the Western Regions was performed at the Xinjiang People's Theater as part of the second Xinjiang Cultural Arts Festival. Set in the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), the play depicts Zheng Ji's conquest of Cheshi, subjugation of the Xiongnu, and establishment of the Protectorate of the Western Regions to safeguard the Silk Road.
