The integration of fans and paintings since the Song Dynasty (960-1279) has formed a highly united and unique fan art, where poetry, calligraphy, painting and seals are harmoniously combined within a confined space.
The Hunan Museum launched an exhibition on Nov 17 featuring 142 fan works from its collection. Besides traditional subjects such as birds and flowers, landscapes, figures and calligraphy, fans reflecting the specific regional culture of Hunan are highlighted. The exhibition will run for one year.
