Jining in East China's Shandong province saw its gross domestic product grow 4.1 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year, hitting 258.04 billion yuan ($38.27 billion), according to a news conference on the city's economic and social development on July 26.

The added value of the city's primary, secondary and tertiary industries totaled 28.17 billion yuan, 103.47 billion yuan, and 126.4 billion yuan, respectively, in the first six months, an increase of 5.8 percent, 3.7 percent, and 4 percent.

The industrial added value above designated size increased 10.4 percent year-on-year. Specifically, that of the mining, manufacturing, and the electricity, gas and water production and supply industries rose 29.4 percent, 1.7 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively.

Jining also saw robust foreign trade growth during the same period. The city's total import and export value hit 39.48 billion yuan from January to June, up 39.8 percent year-on-year. Its exports rose 59.3 percent to 29.93 billion yuan. 

Its imports and exports with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative climbed by 58 percent to 15.9 billion yuan, while those with the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership members jumped by 41 percent to 14.4 billion yuan.

During the first half of this year, 75,000 market entities were newly registered in the city. A total of 41,000 people were newly employed, an increase of 6.3 percent year-on-year.

The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents amounted to 21,698 yuan and 11,539 yuan, respectively, up 4.2 percent and 5.9 percent year-on-year.

Resource

Jining is an important resource city with exploited coal reserves of 25 billion tons and an annual coal output of 80 million tons, accounting for more than a half of Shandong's total.

Jining ranks second nationally in terms of rare earth reserves, and its annual power generation capacity stands at 120 million kilowatts with annual output of 55 billion kW hours.

Nansi Lake is the largest freshwater lake in North China covering 1,266 square kilometer.

Jining is also an important national agricultural base for oil, grain, cotton and characteristic agricultural products.
