Belt buckles played a key role in traditional Chinese clothing. It not only helped fasten robes, but also reflected its owner’s aesthetic taste and social stature.
Here is a gold-inlaid bronze belt buckle embedded with turquoise, dating back to the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). The rectangular buckle is arched and inlaid with gold patterns.
Discovered in Xinzheng county of Henan province in 1977, the luxuriant belt buckle is in permanent collection of the Henan Museum.
