Gulangyu Island is located on the estuary of the Jiulong River, facing the city of Xiamen. The forest coverage rate of the island exceeds 40 percent and involves more than 90 kinds of plants.
The island’s heritage includes a settlement composed of 931 historical buildings which display a variety of local and international architectural styles. Throughout the island there are natural sceneries, historic roads and gardens.
Gulangyu is an exceptional example of cultural fusion and was added to the heritage list on July 8, 2017.
