The size of Shenzhen's new energy industry ranks it at the forefront of the nation's medium/large cities in this regard, and its new energy industries have experienced fast development, especially for projects involving new energy-powered cars, nuclear energy, solar energy, and biomass energy. Shenzhen's new energy industry's added value was 40.587 billion yuan in 2015, a year-on-year increase of 10.1 percent.

The city's main new energy industrial zones/parks include the New Energy (Nuclear Energy) Industrial Base, and the Pingshan New District New Energy Automobile Industry Base. Some of the better known Shenzhen-based new energy enterprises include BYD Auto, China General Nuclear Power Group, and Topray Solar.
